China looking at widening motor insurance role for foreign insurers

The Chinese insurance regulator, CIRC, is proposing that foreign insurers, meeting certain critiria, should be allowed to sell mandatory third party liability motor insurance.
As 70% of general insurance premiums are related to motor insurance, this could be a big opportunity for foreign insrers who at present can only offer additional optional cover.
