M-Pesa now serving 70% of Kenyan adults

M-Pesa the mobile payments service is now providing facilities to 70% of the adult population in Kenya according to the IMF report into Sub-Saharan Africa. It describes M-Pesa as a 'resounding technological innovation'.

M-Pesa is hoping to get a significant slice of the international remittance market to add to its strong domestic service following its recent deal with Western Union. Kenyans working in other countries are estimated to have remitted around $642m (€465m £404m ¥49.2bn Y4,100m) in 2010.
